 Former Rangpur Mayor Sharfuddin Ahmed Janitor passed away






Rangpur City Corporation's former mayor and parliament member Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has passed away (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilahi Rohidan). Jhantu was undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital for 26 days due to brain haemorrhage.


He left the last breath at around 3:30 pm at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. Raz Ahmed, the only son of late Sarfuddin Ahmed, confirmed the death of his father. He was 66 years old.
Before being ill, he was taken to Dhaka on February 1, with Air Ambulance. Later, he was admitted to Labaid Hospital in Dhaka. From there, he was transferred to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

It is to be noted that on May 20, 2012, Rangpur District Awami League Advisor Member of the freedom fighter Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu was elected mayor for the first election of Rangpur City Corporation. Until his death, he was a member of the Advisory Council of Rangpur-1 (Gangachara) District Awami League.
Besides, he was a member of the Advisory Council of Rangpur District Awami League, Rangpur Sadar Upazila Chairman and Chairman of Rangpur Municipality. He was defeated by the Jatiya Party (A) candidate in the city corporation election on 21 December, 2017.
